While a handcarved flute may be lovely to look at, its true beauty lies in its hauntingly primitive sound, reminiscent of an unspoiled world now past. The following links will allow you to hear sound samples of some of my flutes.

I'm a long time fan of a sound-editing software package called CoolEdit. I've used their basic-level program for about four years now. I decided it was time to step up to their professional level editor in order to do some mixing and layering of sounds.
When I contacted the company about pricing I mentioned what I wanted to do and was told that the author was a collector/player of Native American flutes. I joked that he might be willing to trade a flute for the program - the response was instantaneous and positive. So, now I have for you a sample of not only my F# Poplar flute but also some of the effects that CoolEditPro (www.syntrillium.com) can perform.
Take a listen. One of my true joys with my flutes is finding acoustically interesting places to play them... stairwells, concrete parking garages, caves, tile bathrooms, canyons. All of these places (and more) make your flute sound more interesting. This clip has some reverb, which has the same effect as playing your flute in one of these sorts of places. In addition it has some lovely flowing stream sounds layered in with the music. I love this sort of mixing because it lets me show you what YOU can do with your flute when you find that 'perfect spot' to play.
Listen, enjoy. Thanks to David Johnson (CoolEdit author) for permission to use his sound sample of this flute. Now go take your flute out and hunt for fun places to play!

Perhaps the most intriguing music of these flutes comes from the rare Apache drone flute where one barrel plays the harmonic tone for the other 5-hole concert-tuned barrel. The sound sample that you are about to hear is ONE person playing ONE flute through ONE mouthpiece. There has been no digital editing...

Listen to the sound of 4000-year-old wood brought back from a volcanic tomb. This is from the second flute in this series.

I will be adding new sound files as time and space permit, so please check back periodically to hear the music of my new flutes as well as more of my previous ones.
